Dealing with a text-heavy comic page
A lot of comics would never have a reason to insert a page with a lot of text. But at times in a story-based comic the creator needs to use a 'text-heavy page' provide vital context, jump the story forward without losing the reader, or do deep-dive into an emotional or moral point. Text-heavy pages are extra tricky in a graphic novel because the chosen media (Visual/emotional) has already mostly filtered our audience to those who enjoy visual/emotional; but... it can be done as a couple of the stellar pros have demonstrate today (04.10.24) 1)Use a very-tense situation. I've seen text-heavy pages at the very beginning of a story...or the end of a story when a protagonist does a "wrap up". But the best info-dump pages I've seen are in the middle of a story leading up to a conflict: The Whiteboard, a somewhat paintball-related webcomic by "Doc" Nickel (the-whiteboard.com) 2) If possible, deliver info as a dialogue rather than a monologue. A gift for the hearing impaired
If you're engaged by this title, then I'm guessing you have someone important in your life that is hearing impaired (or you're cultivating a rich relative to be your patron, or you're just a hopelessly nice person...). In my case, my mom and I share progressive, genetic hearing-loss, so I both love her dearly and I am preparing for my own future. Our likes (books, flowers, instrumental-music, letters) and dislikes(big or small noisy crowds) are shaped in part by our increasingly limited hearing. So, to get to the points that you might appreciate: 1) Hearing aides don't improve comprehension very much. The tiny microphones make selected frequencies louder but can't make articulation clearer. Anything that blurs words, (accents, music-lyrics, background sounds) ruins comprehension; speaking in stacatto with measured timing is great if you want to be understood! 2) Seeing the speaker's face and having their focused attention helps a lot. Personally I like walking/ sitting beside
You owe Martin Luther King five minutes.
Why? He made people believe that non-violent protest could bring about real change. In despair, fear and impatience, Americans have resorted and continue to resort to violence to try and bring about lasting change. Think about how America would be different if all that racial frustration had been harnessed by a violent leader. King was more than just a "One-speech leader." King lead and stimulated non-violent protests over a thirteen-year period! As King, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the Alabama Student Movement, and other organizations attracted supporters, providing discipline and patience to eager followers was a continual struggle. Martin Luther King Jr. - Wikipedia King was a gifted orator who lived his words: Martin Luther King Jr. Quotes (Author of The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr.) (goodreads.com) Spend Five minutes with MLK; get inspired.

I guess I'll comment on both of these things. I'll have to get a blog post up for this.
